There is something undeniably magical about an engagement session at the Barboursville Ruins. The historic brick walls, sweeping views, and iconic columns create a setting that feels both grand and intimate at the same time. It was the perfect backdrop for Sophie and Graydon’s romantic Virginia engagement session.
This was our first time photographing an engagement session at the Ruins together as The Photography Mrs, which made it even more special. Missy has photographed here before, but getting to experience it as a team for Sophie and Graydon’s session felt like a full circle moment. Seeing the space through fresh eyes while also knowing its beauty made for such a meaningful afternoon.
We are so thankful they made the drive to town for their session. That alone says so much about who they are. Intentional, thoughtful, and fully invested in this season of their lives.

Sophie and Graydon fit the Ruins beautifully. The soft light, the texture of the brick, and the open sky gave their photos that timeless, almost European feel that we love so much. The Barboursville Ruins are one of our favorite engagement session locations in Central Virginia because they photograph beautifully in every season. The architecture adds depth and romance without overpowering the couple.
Their session felt effortless. Lots of laughter, quiet in between moments, and that natural connection that makes photographing couples such a joy. Engagement sessions are about more than just beautiful images. They are about getting comfortable in front of the camera, learning how we work together, and building trust before the wedding day.
Sophie and Graydon made that easy.

We cannot wait for their June wedding at Magnolia Farm in Culpeper. Magnolia Farm is such a beautiful Virginia wedding venue with open fields, elegant barn spaces, and that perfect blend of rustic charm and refined detail. It is going to be the sweetest summer celebration.
June weddings in Culpeper are truly special. The golden evening light, the lush greenery, and the warmth of early summer create the most romantic setting for saying “I do.” After spending this time with Sophie and Graydon at the Barboursville Ruins, we already know their wedding day will be filled with joy, faith, family, and so much love.
